The album contains remixes of tracks from her first three studio albums and a new track, "Spotlight," which gained moderate airplay in the US. The RIAA certified it' Gold & Platinum on Jan 20, 1988, denoting one million shipments in the United States. A promotional version, ''You Can Dance - Single Edits of Album Remixes'', was issued on the same day to dance clubs in the US featuring single edits of the album cuts. This promotional version charted as ''You Can Dance (LP Cuts)'' on Billboard's Hot Dance Club Play chart, peaking at #1 on February 6, 1988.
